As horrid as the Timber Rattlesnake pictures are, they still do not portray how serious a Puff Adder bite would be. For instance, the swelling would be much more severe, as would the tissue destruction. The blood blisters would also not only cover the arm, but would spread onto the trunk as well. The subcutaneous bruising would be much worse. Death would also be much more likely from a Puff Adder bite, as its venom is many, many times more toxic than the Timber Rattlesnake.
The first two pictures in this series were inflicted by a Mozambique spitting cobra. The effects are very similar to a Puff Adder bite. In fact, bites by this snake are often mistaken for Puff Adder bites in cases where the person was bitten & the snake was unidentified.
